My Brazil You Never Heard project now has two record out, Música Popular (2020) and Behind Jobim (2014). This project is centered around my arrangements and orchestrations for a Brazilian rhythm section and a chamber ensemble - often times with strings or horns or both. It’s a project I produced along with Léo Costa, the art on the recordings is done by Adriano Fonseca de Carvalho.
*Música Popular is a four song EP that explores the influence of American Pop music in Brazil. We took the songs from a larger repertoire that has been performed live, the idea being to play Brazilian music that was influenced by American Pop and also to take some American songs and arrange them in a Brazilian way. On the EP we have two Stevie Wonder classics, Send One Your Love and I Can’t Help It, one very famous song by Caetano Veloso, Meu Bem Meu Mal, and one original composition of mine, Santanna.
*Behind Jobim is our first EP, it features my arrangements of music that was influential to Brazil’s most internationally impactful composer, Antonio Carlos Jobim. From Chopin to Pixinguinha to Garoto to Jazz music. The record also features the great Gretchen Parlato and a big ensemble with strings, winds and a Brazilian rhythm section. This record marks the beginning of what has been a long and fruitful collaboration with producer and percussionist Léo Costa. Leo and I are working on a new Brazil You Never Heard EP, coming out in the next couple of months, please keep an eye out for it…for the moment you can listen to Behind Jobim here or download it via:
